Brightlingsea occurs as coastal town around Essex in the Tendring district, roughty between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea, situated at a mouth of the Flow of any stream Colne, in Brightlingsea Creek.

Its traditional industries involved piscary (sustaining the celebrated Oyster fishery) and shipbuilding. By having the decline one industries, a town is largely a dormitory town for Colchester, and the popular retirement destination.

Brightlingsea is one of a Cinque Ports.

A town retains an active ceremonial connection by using a Cinque Ports, electing the Deputy from either a social club of Freemen.

A town has an active unpaid yachting scene. Brightlingsea Sailing Club diarrhea an active competitory sailing program, & has produced numbers of champions at international & olympic level. A Colne Yacht Club caters chiefly to cruising members.
